May 25, 2025 — In response to a series of global outages on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk has announced a return to his famously intense work routine, pledging to spend nearly all his time across his core companies—X, Tesla, and SpaceX.
“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk posted on X. “I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out.”
The statement follows a widespread disruption on May 24 that left users around the world unable to access X. According to outage tracking site Downdetector, more than 2,200 reports were logged by 6:20 PM IST. Musk acknowledged the issue, citing “major operational improvements” as urgently needed. “The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not,” he admitted, pointing to deeper infrastructure problems.
Compounding the platform’s challenges, reports have emerged of a fire at one of X’s data centers in Oregon, potentially related to its battery systems. The incident required an extended emergency response and may have contributed to the service instability.
Stepping Away from Politics
Musk also revealed he is stepping back from political involvement. The announcement comes after months of controversy surrounding his support for Donald Trump’s campaign, to which he reportedly contributed nearly $300 million, and his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The political engagement drew criticism and investor concern, especially amid declining Tesla sales in the U.S. and Europe. Under pressure, Musk had previously indicated he would limit government-related work to one or two days a week. Now, he appears to be exiting politics entirely to refocus on his business ventures.
With Tesla facing a recent dip in annual deliveries and growing investor anxiety over leadership distractions, Musk’s renewed commitment to hands-on involvement is seen as a move to stabilize operations and restore confidence across his enterprises.
