Washington, D.C. – Tech billionaire Elon Musk is facing intense public scrutiny after a New York Times investigation alleged extensive drug use and erratic behavior during his tenure in the Trump administration. The report paints a disturbing portrait of the Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s time at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a role he took on while actively advising President Trump and contributing over $275 million to his 2024 campaign.
Sources cited by the Times claim Musk regularly used ketamine, MDMA (ecstasy), and psychedelic mushrooms, often in doses far exceeding what he had previously acknowledged publicly. The revelations have sparked widespread concern over the billionaire’s influence in national policy-making while operating under the title of a “special government employee”, a status that granted him exemption from certain federal drug use regulations.
Musk Dismisses Allegations, Attacks NYT in Farewell Speech
During his farewell address at the White House, flanked by President Trump, Musk dodged questions about the report and instead attacked the credibility of the New York Times.
Responding to a query from Fox News journalist Peter Doocy, Musk said:
“Is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on the Russia-gate? I think it is.”
He continued, claiming a judge had ruled against the Times and suggested they “may have to give back their Pulitzer Prize.” Musk then dismissed the topic, saying, “Let’s move on.”
White House Evades Questions on Drug Use
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller refused to directly address concerns over Musk’s alleged drug use, stating:
“The drugs we’re concerned about are the drugs pouring across the southern border. Next question.”
Disturbing Details From the NYT Investigation
The Times report, based on interviews with insiders and former colleagues, claims Musk’s drug use was frequent and heavy, contradicting his March 2024 interview with Don Lemon, where he claimed to take ketamine “in small doses every two weeks.” Insiders suggest Musk sometimes took the drug daily, reportedly leading to bladder complications.
Additionally, a box of roughly 20 pills, including Adderall, was allegedly part of Musk’s daily regimen, raising flags about his mental and physical fitness while holding an influential role in national governance.
Unstable Behavior and Public Backlash
As Musk’s role within the Trump administration expanded, reports of volatile behavior mounted. He is said to have insulted cabinet members, and at one political rally, made a gesture resembling a Nazi salute, triggering national outrage.
Prominent author and neuroscientist Sam Harris, once an ally of Musk, wrote in a January 2025 newsletter:
“There is something seriously wrong with his moral compass, if not his perception of reality.”
SpaceX Drug Policy Under Scrutiny
While SpaceX maintains a strict drug-free workplace policy, sources claim Musk received advance warnings of drug tests, prompting skepticism over the enforcement of corporate compliance standards.
