LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — At least 11 people were hospitalized following a mass shooting Sunday night in the coastal town of Little River, according to Horry County Police.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on a predominantly residential street near the Intracoastal Waterway, approximately 20 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the conditions of the victims.
Horry County Police reported that additional victims were arriving at local hospitals via private vehicles, indicating the total number of injured may rise. No details have been released about potential suspects or a possible motive behind the shooting.
Eyewitnesses described a heavy emergency response, with numerous police vehicles and ambulances seen moving in and out of the neighborhood throughout the night.
The area, while largely residential, includes a handful of boating businesses, according to the Associated Press.
This latest shooting comes just one month after a separate mass shooting in nearby Myrtle Beach, where one person was killed and 11 others were injured. That April incident occurred on North Ocean Boulevard during a disturbance involving multiple individuals. An officer at the scene opened fire, fatally striking one person.
Horry County authorities continue to investigate Sunday night’s incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
